Voyager 2 leaves the solar system

On 5 November 2019 the Voyager 2 space probe officially left our solar system. Voyager 2 was launched on 20 August 1977 and has been operating for 42 years and 5 months. It is currently a distance of 18,300 million kilometers from the sun (earth is 147 million kilometers from the sun).

Voyager 2 is now in its extended mission to study the outer reaches of the Solar System and it remains in contact through the NASA Deep Space Network.
